If you are arriving in Australia on a permanent residency visa and wish to purchase property as your primary place of residence, you may qualify for a Government incentive called the First Home Owners Grant.
Non Permanent Residents
It may be possible to purchase property and obtain a mortgage in Australia without being a citizen or permanent resident. Foreign purchasers intending to acquire real estate in Australia may need to seek prior approval from the Government through the Foreign Investment Review Board unless specifically exempted by the Foreign Acquisitions and Takeovers Regulations (more info at www.firb.gov.au).
